Cesc Fabregas has been the man Chelsea call on as they struggle to maintain their winning streak.
After the win over Sunderland, the Blues
extended the streak to ten but they are facing stiffer competition to continue.
The Spaniard was the saviour when he gave a brilliant assist to lead striker Diego Costa to break the deadlock in the game against West Bromwich Albion last week. The World Cup and Euro winner was the saviour again when he hit a brilliant effort to ensure Chelsea claimed maximum points against the Black Cats on Wednesday.
The victories have left Chelsea six points clear at the top of the Premier League. Coach Antonio Conte is fixated on continuing the winning run for as long as possible as it would earn him the Premier League in his first season in charge of Chelsea.
Most teams that lead the league into the New Year always win it, and Chelsea have a good chance at clinching the title this year. Rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all dropped points recently. With Arsenal set to face City, there could be more points’ loss. Continue reading FABREGAS – KEY TO CHELSEA TITLE HOPES
Jurgen Klopp says that there will always be a role for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard if he decides to return to the club.
The 36-year-old has been playing in the MLS with LA Galaxy, but he recently hinted that he may be ready to end his short spell with the North American club. On his Instagram account, he thanked LA Galaxy fans for the excellent memories that they have given him in the last couple of years. This seems like a direct hint that he would be ready to move on once the 2016 MLS campaign comes to a close.
LA Galaxy are currently involved in the play-offs after a mediocre campaign. Manager Bruce Arena criticised the star players at the club for failing to make a major difference. Alongside Gerrard, LA Galaxy also have former Premier League star Robbie Keane in their ranks. The possibility of Gerrard returning to Anfield has been rumoured in the last few days and Klopp has responded by saying that the club will always have a space for the iconic midfielder. Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has urged supporters to get behind Jordan Henderson, whom he considers as the real asset of the team. Henderson started captaining Liverpool even when Gerrard was at the club.
He was being moulded by former manager Brendan Rodgers, who seemed to be aware that Liverpool would have a huge void once Gerrard departed the club. New manager Jurgen Klopp, though, sees James Milner as the choice for being the captain. Henderson has suffered numerous injury problems in the last couple of years, which has limited his impact in the first team.
Yet, Gerrard has urged fans to remain behind the former Sunderland midfielder since he believes that the 26-year-old has a great future ahead of him. Last season, Henderson featured in only 26 games across all competitions and this included only 17 league outings. A summer of big spending has taken place at Liverpool with several new players coming to Anfield. This can only increase the pressure for Henderson. Gerrard was reviewing the position of the 26-year-old during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. The former Liverpool captain is currently playing for LA Galaxy and is regarded as the biggest star at the club.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says that the absence of Steven Gerrard will be a huge loss for English football next season.
The Liverpool midfielder prepares to play his final league outing in England. After having been given a rousing sendoff by the Anfield faithful last weekend, Gerrard will be concluding his almost 2 decades long Premier League career at the Britannia stadium while playing against Stoke City. It is almost certain that he will play some part in a game, which has little meaning for both clubs. Gerrard wanted to go out on a high by winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.
However, he leaves after having seen the club knocked out in the semifinals in the FA Cup and finishing just behind Manchester United in the race for the top four. Gerrard has been a huge figure in English football especially in the last decade and Hughes admits that the game will be less spectacular without him. There have been several great players who have left the game and Gerrard will add to the number. Stoke City will be hoping to increase their records point tally of 51, which has been achieved this season. Hughes says that irrespective of the result he is confident that the Stoke City supporters will give Gerrard a big send off.
