Jurgen Klopp says that there will always be a role for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard if he decides to return to the club.
The 36-year-old has been playing in the MLS with LA Galaxy, but he recently hinted that he may be ready to end his short spell with the North American club. On his Instagram account, he thanked LA Galaxy fans for the excellent memories that they have given him in the last couple of years. This seems like a direct hint that he would be ready to move on once the 2016 MLS campaign comes to a close.
LA Galaxy are currently involved in the play-offs after a mediocre campaign. Manager Bruce Arena criticised the star players at the club for failing to make a major difference. Alongside Gerrard, LA Galaxy also have former Premier League star Robbie Keane in their ranks. The possibility of Gerrard returning to Anfield has been rumoured in the last few days and Klopp has responded by saying that the club will always have a space for the iconic midfielder. Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has urged supporters to get behind Jordan Henderson, whom he considers as the real asset of the team. Henderson started captaining Liverpool even when Gerrard was at the club.
He was being moulded by former manager Brendan Rodgers, who seemed to be aware that Liverpool would have a huge void once Gerrard departed the club. New manager Jurgen Klopp, though, sees James Milner as the choice for being the captain. Henderson has suffered numerous injury problems in the last couple of years, which has limited his impact in the first team.
Yet, Gerrard has urged fans to remain behind the former Sunderland midfielder since he believes that the 26-year-old has a great future ahead of him. Last season, Henderson featured in only 26 games across all competitions and this included only 17 league outings. A summer of big spending has taken place at Liverpool with several new players coming to Anfield. This can only increase the pressure for Henderson. Gerrard was reviewing the position of the 26-year-old during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. The former Liverpool captain is currently playing for LA Galaxy and is regarded as the biggest star at the club.

Former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard appears to have hit top form with LA Galaxy.
Indeed the former England international has provided 2 assists in his team win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. This is the 7th assists that Steven Gerrard has created this season.
The midfielder has been criticized last season by LA Galaxy fans because he was underperforming and not creating much in the middle of the park. But this season, there has been a change in his performance. Steven Gerrard has not only created 7 goals but also scored 2 himself.
Steven Gerrard said that his improvement in performance has come after he has talked with the LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena. The Englishman has told the coach that he wants to play higher up the pitch so that he can contribute more to the attack. Gerrard stated that he is a creative player and that he wants to participate in the build-up play. He told the coach that he could create and score goals if he plays behind the strikers. LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard stated that they were disappointed with a point after drawing against Philadelphia.
He indicated that they came here to win 3 points but instead managed only one. However, he admitted that it was a good point because Philadelphia played well in the game.
According to him, LA Galaxy has the quality to win games, and they need to make sure that they kill game off whenever they have the opportunity. He also wants the defence to stop conceding goals as this make it difficult for them to win matches. He wants the team to defend as a unit so as not to give the opposing team any chance of scoring.
LA Galaxy defender Ashley Cole also emphasized the importance of better defending. He said that the team needed to learn how to keep clean sheets. He stated that the team should start defending better if they want to win the league and at the moment they are conceding too many goals. Steven Gerrard is heading to the MLS in the next season as his Liverpool career which has spanned for over 15 years is reaching it’s final few months and it’s not ending in the way that the English midfielder wanted it to finish as he has been hitting a few road blocks in his last season.
A hamstring injury has forced Gerrard on having to stay on the sidelines of Liverpool for a few matches but there was another incident that has affected the experienced midfielder much more and it was the red card that he received during Liverpool’s match against Manchester United which was played on March 22 at Anfield.
Gerrard came off the bench at the 46th minute and did not last a single minute on the pitch as he received a red card after stamping on the legs of Ander Herrera. Manchester United eventually managed to claim the victory with a final scoreboard of 2-1.
A slip from the Liverpool captain also allowed Demba Ba to score a goal during a league match when Chelsea was facing off with Liverpool.
This is certainly not the way that Gerrard wanted to spend his last season with the club where he has played in his entire career and the 34 year old midfielder admitted in saying that Liverpool has not accomplished anything so far in this season.
Even though Gerrard will end his Liverpool career at the end of the current campaign, he still wants to help push the team into a Champions League position that would allow the Premier League club in competing in the European competition in the next season and the Englishman knows that it will be a difficult task to accomplish as there are more clubs which are aiming for the same objective. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says that Steven Gerrard will not be happy at being left out of the starting line-up against Real Madrid the Champions League. A former England teammate of Gerrard, Scholes says that one of the reasons for Gerrard retiring from international duty was to play in such big matches. The showdown with Madrid was one of the biggest matches for Liverpool this season. After a 3-0 defeat against the Spanish club earlier in the season at Anfield, Liverpool were looking for revenge. Manager Brendan Rodgers, though, appeared to throw in the towel after naming a weakened starting line-up.
Rodgers may have defended his selection by saying that he wanted to win the match, but Scholes is of the opinion that this selection was largely made with regard to the weekend’s match against Chelsea in mind. Further, Liverpool are now no longer the favourites to qualify for the last 16. Their defeat against FC Basel and Real Madrid in the previous rounds has put the Swiss club as favourites for the second spot behind Madrid. Gerrard and Sterling have been the two best players for Liverpool this season, but they came on as substitutes.
They were unable to influence the game and Liverpool lost the match 1-0 after a goal from Karim Benzema. “I think that’s probably why he gave up international football, to play in games like this. I don’t think he’ll be happy tonight. think Steven Gerrard is capable of playing in this game and on Saturday (against Chelsea). It is Tuesday night, he’ll have two-day recovery, train Friday, play Saturday and he’s got a nice little two weeks off,” said Scholes. “It seems they are definitely prioritising for the Chelsea game. If I’m a player I want to rest at home and rest properly rather than travelling,” said former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon.
It has been over 20 years since Liverpool has managed on securing the Premier League title and this is the first time in a while that the Anfield club is making a serious charge for the silverware.
Daniel Sturridge stated that one of the main reasons why the club and his teammates are pushing so hard for the league trophy is because of Steven Gerrard as it is the one major club title that the English midfielder has not lifted and he deserves to win it. Continue reading LIVERPOOL AIM HIGH
