Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Charlie Nicholas believes the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill should be frustrated after failing to claim a regular role under Maurizio Sarri since the start of the season. The experienced duo were crucial players under Antonio Conte during the course of the previous campaign but they have barely got a kick this season with Sarri deciding to stick with a settled combination.
On the contrary, Nicholas’ companion at Sky Sports Phil Thompson had a different point of view and insists that the duo may have to stay patient for their opportunities with the Blues currently going through a positive patch, he said: “When a team is winning, I don’t care who you are or what a good player you are, you have to just say ‘fair play’. This team’s winning constantly. If you’re winning, and I know what you’re saying about Fabregas and Cahill, but you just have to wait your time.”
Fabregas was a regular participant for the Blues during pre-season but he unfortunately sustained a mystery knee injury towards the end. He has since made just two appearances for the Blues, the latest of which came from the bench during the 1-0 Europa League triumph over PAOK. Meanwhile, Cahill had to wait until the weekend just past for a late cameo against West Ham United but he has recently hinted that he could leave the Blues during the winter transfer window.
