COLLINS DELIGHTED

The West Ham United defender James Collins has said that he is extremely delighted with the defensive performance of the team in the recent 0-0 draw with Manchester City. West Ham United were welcoming the Premier league champions to Upton Park. Even though they had made a great start to the new season, there were certainly room for improvement from Sam Allardyce’s men. They have had four clean sheets in the league this season, but the defender James Collins has said that the clean sheet against Manchester City is the best so far.

This is because West Ham were facing a Manchester City side that had more than £ 120 million worth of talent in the attacking side of things. However, they were unable to find a way past the stubborn Londoners, who have been excellent since being promoted from the Championship this summer. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini decided to use all the attacking talent in the form of Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, and Mario Balotelli in the game. However, he was still unable to get past West Ham. James Collins, who rejoined the club from Aston Villa, said that the defensive solidarity impresses him very much in this early part of the season.

“We were good but we knew we had to do it at home because, by our standards, we were poor last week at Wigan. Especially with the run of games coming up, we knew we had to come and play well and defend well and we have done that. Certainly in the second half we were camped on the edge of our box for long periods but that’s what you have got to do against such a quality team,” said Collins. West Ham United are currently in the top 10 positions on the table.
