Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has said that he cannot wait for the chance to link up with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. Steven Gerrard has recently made his return to the first team action after suffering a number of injuries with the past season and half. Immediately, he has marked his return with three goals from four matches. He was once again inspirational the match against Manchester City. The 1-0 win, which came courtesy of Steven Gerrard penalty, gave Liverpool the advantage in the Carling cup semi-final first leg. The return leg will be at Anfield.
Andy Carroll has largely struggled for form and fitness after signing from Newcastle United last season for £ 35 million. Many have been saying that Andy Carroll has failed to live up to the huge transfer fee. There has also been talk of Newcastle United signing him back in the January transfer window in order to provide him with some confidence. However, the England international has said that the return of Steven Gerrard will inspire him back to form more than anything else. Steven Gerrard found a great partnership with Fernando Torres at Liverpool until his departure to Chelsea last season. Andy Carroll has said that he is hoping to strike a similar partnership.
We haven’t had the chance to start many games together. I think I may have been a sub when he’s started or he has been a sub when I have so it’s nice to see him back. When you’re on the same team as him in training, some of the passes he puts through for you and the chances he creates are incredible really,” said Carroll. Andy Carroll and Steven Gerrard have played just nine matches together during his Anfield career. Luis Suarez is currently out with an eight-game ban.
