Van Persie Set to Start

Robin van Persie is set to start against Borussia Dortmund in a match that is extremely important for Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions. The group has been unexpectedly tight due to the early season struggles for Arsenal. However, they have since recovered from their early season dip in form, and still have a chance of qualifying if results go their way.

One of the main architects of the recovery has been Robin van Persie. Arsene Wenger has been trying to protect him for the important matches by resting him from those that are less valuable for the club. With big league games coming thick and fast, it was very much expected that Robin van Persie would be starting on the bench for the match against Borussia Dortmund, but with Arsenal needing a win manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Robin van Persie will be starting the match.

The Gunners have a narrow advantage over second placed Marseille. The one-point advantage will prove insignificant if they do not take the maximum points in their home match against Borussia Dortmund. Hence, the need to play a player like Robin van Persie arises. Robin van Persie has not only been an excellent form this season, but in this calendar year as well. So far, he has scored a remarkable 37 goals in 28 matches for Arsenal in all competitions in this calendar year alone.

Speaking ahead of the match, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Robin van Persie will start the match.  “Robin started last time as a substitute because we had concerns about his fitness. Tomorrow we are sure he will be fit enough to play, which means he will start.”

The match will also allow Arsene Wenger to have a look at the young sensation at Borussia Dortmund, Mario Goetze. Despite being only 19 years of age, he has caught the eye of scored from all over the world.
